Sorry for this, this is probably my first stupid question on here so far/ what are the eboot patches for? I see lots of them for all the various games but when i google or searvh here it doesnt tell me what they are for. Thanks Its not a stupid question, don't mind the rude person above me. However i do find it hard to believe that you couldn't find your answer through google.
When you search and get some information, refine your search and search again, then refine and search again. That is how to use google. When you are on a CFW you need your eboot to be patched to work with your CFW. And it is not true that you do not need to worry about eboots unless you are on 3.55. Eboots still need to be resigned on other firmware its just that multiman does it for you now. Also PSN games need to be resigned. I would have thought that If someone was going to be rude to you at least they would have given you correct information.
@ yes I am serious, I wouldnt ask the question if I wasnt unfortunatley. I thought I was in the right forum, a forum where if you cant find the information you seek then 'just ask' there are lots of helpful people on the forum.
@ thank you for taking the time to reply, Ill go back and have another look at google, when I searched it just brought up list after list of patches for individual games, nothing to tell me 'an eboot patch is something you stick up your ass and it helps you give up smoking, there are many patches available and to apply a patch you do this' if you get my meaning thanks bobbybangin cleared it up for me, easy anyways, I am just trying to get a grip of the whole custom firmware, jailbreak, hax scene, Ill go google and see what I can find, will hopefully not be back to ask, but if I am. As far as i understand it, an eboot (+ param.sfo?) needs to be patched if the CFW on your PS3 is lower than that of the game. Ps3disc.sfb & lic.dat need to be edited to change region / title id.
MultiMAN does this on the fly now so you can use a 1:1 copy of a game? PSN games need to be signed by your PS3. (using your IDPS/PSID/eidrootkey + a key (edat))? Sorry for the necro'ing but i want to know if i understand it right. There's no stupid question, other than the one not asked.

Thread is over 4 years old, and the user you quoted hasn't been on this site in almost a year. Maybe start your own thread if there was a question in there?
Eboot.bin files can be installed onto the Sony PlayStation 3 using a package install feature right from the PS3 main menu. Eboot.bin files can be installed onto the PS3 only via a package (PKG) file. The PKG file has the eboot.bin file saved inside it, and when installed the eboot.bin file is unpacked and saved to the proper directory on the PS3 hard drive. Insert the USB pen drive into the computer's USB port. Download the eboot.bin file you are installing onto your Sony PS2 if you have not yet done so.
Right-click the 'PKG' file that was downloaded and click 'Copy' from the context menu that comes up. Right-click the USB pen drive icon that is on the computer's desktop now, and click the 'Paste' option from the context menu. Unplug the USB pen drive from the computer and insert it into the PS3's USB port. Select the 'Install Package Files' option from the PS3 menu.
