Arguably one of Marley’s greatest songs, “Natural Mystic” has an almost hymnal quality to it – everything about the song is ethereal and inspired. Never has Perry been so understated in his production, using the simplest, tribal rhythms to magnificent effect.
Marley’s lyric rises to the challenge, and the opening “There’s a natural mystic blowing through the years” is certainly one of Reggae’s most poetic and potent images. Although the lyrics are vague, they’re no less effective than, say, Dylan’s ”Blowing In The Wind” and “Natural Mystic” has become one of Bob Marley’s signature songs, and one of his greatest artistic achievements.
